Sleepy Monk-ee

It's not quite the end of week two of the semester and I'm already pooped.  I worked twenty hours from Monday through Wednesday, and I'm working another 12 hours or so between today and tomorrow on top of my classes.  It's not all bad, though.  My on-campus job is in the admissions office.  After spending most of the day looking up numbers for community colleges and calling them to get hooked up for their college fairs (for students who want to transfer to a four-year college or university), I was asked to run up to the cafeteria to photograph an event put on by a group of immersion students from Taiwan.  It should have been called "Sugarfest 2007."  Upon entering, I was immediately offered a tray filled with cookies, juice, doughnuts and other goodies.  I declined as I was on the job, but I eventually succumbed and had a small bowl of ice cream and a glazed doughnut.

One of my compatriots, Rafael, was sitting with two other students who were putting more sweets in his bowl.  He tried to refuse, but to no avail.  I asked if he knew what Americans do with a turkey before Thanksgiving--fatten it up for the kill.  The Thai monk on his right gave out a great big laugh.

Now it's 3:42pm and I'm crashing from this brief sugar high.  I have to collect myself for a three-hour class on methodology,  but then I have the evening off.  I'll write more this evening and might have some pics from the party, too, so check back.

The Taiwanese do love their sugar, don't they? Our two-week pilgrimmage to Taiwan was supposed to be something of a mindful experience, but ended up being more of an eating event.

Anyway, all part of the living, right?

May everything go perfectly for you!
